Story:
NYC (3/21/2010) - Drivers across the five boroughs now have an extra five minutes after their parking meters run out or alternate side parking expires before they are issued a ticket.Alternate side parking is when you have to move your car to the other side of the street so the streets can be cleaned.
The grace period went into effect Sunday.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg argued that this law is stupid because drivers and ticket agents wouldn't know what time to go by.
Supporters of the law say ticket writers are too aggressive in giving out violations one to two minutes after a meter expires.
The fine for those violations is generally $65.
