Story:
James Crockett, 61, is charged with criminal possession of a disguised gun and menacing.
Police say Crockett was shot after a brief stand off with three uniformed officers on Linden Street in Bushwick just before 1:30 a.m.
They say the officers took cover behind parked cars and told Crockett to drop his weapon, but that he turned toward them with the gun and refused to put it down.
One of the officers fired twice, hitting Crockett in the left side of his torso and thigh.
He is now recovering at Elmhurst Hospital.
Police say the gun they recovered, seen above, was a BB gun.
