Story:
New Mexico (2/16/2011) - Most schools send students to a museum or the theater for a day away from the classroom. But one New Mexico state lawmaker is proposing a field trip to jail.

Rep. David Chavez introduced a bill Tuesday that would make middle school students have to visit jail and juvenile detention facilities. Chavez believes the reality check would keep kids in school and out of trouble.

Parent Monique Jackson said she didn't like the idea.

"Who knows what's said to them when they go on these field trips?" Jackson asked.

New Mexico has the second lowest graduation rate in the country.  David Chavez wants to make kids stay in school so that they will graduate.
